In the 1980s Pratt Institute sponsored a national talent search. In 1988 I won 1st place in Computer Graphics and 3rd in Art & Design. Two years later the opportunity was gone. The School of the Art Institute of Chicago had a merit-based fellowship that covered tuition for historically excluded students. That opportunity is gone, too. With these supports I would not have been able to attend art colleges, as I had zero family support.
